We are excited to announce A Better Life for Foster Kids is the recipient of a Loy Yang B Community Partnership Grant.

We estimate 90% of children who receive Crisis Cases are removed from their homes as a result of domestic violence. With recent research showing sharp increases in family violence incidents through COVID-19, and increased difficulty for carers to safely and rapidly purchase items under COVID-19 conditions we requested support from Loy Yang B to help us deliver more Crisis Cases to meet the growing need.

Funding from Loy Yang B will help us to provide Crisis Cases to 110 children in the latter half of 2020, ensuring their needs are provided for with dignity, and carers are supported with the necessities to care for a child at a time when there are even more difficulties around safely accessing goods.

The value of Crisis Cases was obvious, said Nicole Boskma, Loy Yang B’s Communications Coordinator, when she called to tell us the good news.

We think so too! In the words of one carer “We have been a single income family since we became foster carers, because our child really needed an at home mum. You do make a child happy …but for many carers, it’s at a huge financial loss. Thank goodness for agencies that help when kids arrive with nothing.”

We’re so grateful for this funding support that will make a difference in the lives of 110 children and their carers!
