Our Volunteers

Giving Kids in Care a Better Start.

Our Volunteers

The Heart Behind Every Crisis Case, Every Delivery, Every Smile

At A Better Life For Foster Kids, our volunteers are more than helpers, they are the heartbeat of everything we do. They are the quiet champions behind the scenes, the extra hands that show up when the system falls short, and the warm hearts who remind children and carers that they are not alone.

From carefully packing Crisis Cases with love and intention to delivering them to doorsteps in moments of need… from knitting teddies and sewing toiletry bags to organising community fundraisers and sourcing urgently needed supplies, our volunteers give their time, their skills, and their compassion freely.

And we couldn’t do this without them.

Linda Dervish

Prior to joining the ABLFFK I was a primary school teacher. Linda helps in assembling  our cases.

I love being part of the ABLFFK team because we all feel very passionate about wanting to make the transition to out of home care less traumatic for the many children who experience it.

Margaret Treverton

My work history is in community mental health. I am adopted and brought up with foster siblings. I like volunteering with ABLFFK because of the amazing care and support they give to a vulnerable community all over Victoria. I love that this comes from the vision of one lady from a regional town.

Judyth Gordyn

I worked in retail all my life and when I retired I needed something to do so that is how I got involved with this charity. I am very happy to be involved with this much needed charity. Judy is responsible for assembling our toiletry bags for cases.

Julie Pritchett

My prior work was with AGA. Data entry for apprenticeships and Vet program for school children. Working with ABLFFK is engaging, social and the knowledge that you are helping the children in some way. Julie helps in assembling  our cases.

Yvonne Baird

Yvonne has been with the charity since its conception, Yvonne has been raising a family and running a farm for over 60 years all the time being involved with the CWA and volunteering her time to children and grandchildren both with sport and school. Yvonne’s love of craft has seen her donate lots of beautiful garments to the children. Yvonne helps out wherever she is needed on the day and attends lots of presentations with Heather.

Bernadette Kent

Before I came to ABLFFK we had Guthridge Food Centre and Post Office in Sale for 14years and that’s where I met Heather. After selling our business we did a 6 months trip around Australia. When we got back I reached out to Heather wanting to help her to help our children that are in out of home care. I am also a swimming teacher and have been teaching since 1987 and still teaching today.  Love what I’m doing. After many years as a volunteer Bernie is now our  Crisis Case Coordinator for Victoria.

Denise Anderson

I worked in retail for many years before I retired. I was looking to do some volunteering and came across ABLFFK. I was impressed with what Heather was doing and decided to join her and have really enjoyed every moment now I am helping these children.

Denise has been with us for nearly 10 years now and is our Cases Quality Controller .

Pat Mcdairmid

After retiring from running my own busy business l really missed the connection and companionship and also the feeling of doing good for people.

Since joining ABLFFK  I  have found this and more. I enjoy working with our like minded crew. All passionate about making a difference in these little unfortunate kiddies’ lives.

Volunteering for ABLFFK makes me feel good on the inside as l believe  l am doing good on the outside.

Do Good Deeds

Our Community in Action

To our volunteers: Thank You.

Thank you for the time you give, the kindness you offer, and the belief you carry — that every child deserves better, and that we have the power to make it happen, together.

Your work may be behind the scenes, but your impact is front and centre in the lives of the children and carers we support.
