We are grateful to Esso Australia who this year have funded us to provide a camp for 25 young men in out of home care, aged between 12 and 17, who will be able to take part in outdoor adventure activities designed to build their confidence, leaderships skills and self-belief – all while having a ton of fun.
We’ve wanted to hold a camp for older kids in out of home care for some time, and especially during COVID, when isolation and changes to young people’s regular routines have been driving mental health concerns.
Young people in OOHC in regional areas need to be provided with the same opportunities to learn and practice their social skills, make social connections with others with similar relatable life experiences and undertake confidence building exercises and activities as their peers.
We will provide a camp for young people from regional Gippsland and adjacent areas to take part in outdoor activities and challenges in a safe and emotionally supportive environment, and receive mentoring in leadership and life skills from the trained camp staff. It will also provide opportunities to develop connections with other young people in out of home care.
Thanks Esso Australia for this opportunity to provide an awesome outdoor adventure experience to 25 very deserving young people!
